FUP Funding
HUD awarded an average of 3,560 vouchers to public housing authorities each year between 1992 and 2001. In fact, even during years when regular Section 8 vouchers were not awarded, HUD kept its commitment to provide vouchers for FUP.
However, for eight years, HUD opted not to fund FUP, even though the Tenant Protection Fund (out of which FUP is funded) had carry over funds in each of those years. Due in no small part to the work of Senators Murray and Bond and current HUD staff, more than 40 million dollars in new funding for FUP vouchers will be awarded to public housing authorities and their child welfare partners.
